If you know me, you know I am a book lover! I’ve been reading books about autism practically non-stop since I started to think I might be autistic. But I will say that it’s been challenging to find books that have useful, practical advice for autistic adults. Most are memoirs or very science-oriented. Those have their place, but I craved a book that could give me some guidance about how to improve my life and the lives of my clients in a tangible way.
Enter Self-Care for Autistic People by Dr. Megan Anna Neff. I could not recommend this book more! Each tip is concise and powerful. And they’re written in a format that makes them very easy to follow. I wouldn’t say the book is comprehensive, but that’s one of its strengths! She has chosen the top activities that will have the most impact. And every word in the book is pro-autistic. There is no shaming or promotion of masking. I believe this book has the power to change many lives.
So get it from your local library or local small book store! Or if you want it delivered to your doorstep, I recommend Bookshop.org. Enjoy and get on that critical self-care!
