After nine months of classes, homework, and photo shoots, I've completed the Certificate of Photography program at University of Washington! I've learned so much from David Julian and Ray Pfortner, the instructors, as well as from my classmates. Every one of us has different interests , so it's led to a very eclectic mix of work. I know one of the most important pieces I'll take away from the program will be this group of fellow photographers.
Three pieces from each of our final projects are on display from today through June 27 in the UW Tower Mezzanine Mon-Fri 8am-5pm. Last night the entire class attended the opening reception along with family, friends, and members of the program Board. Three pieces from my Like a Mother series are on display on some lovely corner real estate. I was blown away by the connection that many people had to my photos; some were openly touched with emotion. I felt like the stories of these mothers made their impact.
I want to thank my husband for his unwavering support and help during this program. I could not have done it without him! I'd also like to thank my incredible Like a Mother models who truly made the project work by being vulnerable and honest in front of my camera. It took a lot of courage and trust on their part. I hope these photos will improve how mothers are viewed and treated in our society. Check them out if you're in the area!
